Adriana Fernández is a Spanish abstract artist who lives in Ibiza and paints in her studio in Ibiza town. Under the name AEFE Arte, she makes organic work in which colour, texture and movement become vehicles of calm. She doesn’t paint to fill walls; she paints to create visual spaces that hold balance, depth and presence. This page is about who she is, how she works and what it means to live with a piece that has come straight from her hands.
A contemporary Spanish painter inspired by the Mediterranean
Her starting point is landscape, but she never copies it. What interests her about the sea, the coastline and the light of the island is not the recognisable view but what remains once the view has gone: a horizon line, the slow rhythm of the tides, a rock worn smooth by water, the stillness of an afternoon without wind. From there comes a quiet visual language, far from the violent gesture or the hard-edged lines of geometric work.
Her painting is organic: shapes that recall land seen from the air, layers of sediment, foam drawing back from the shore. Form and colour serve one specific feeling, which is calm. That is why her pieces sit so naturally with contemporary architecture, minimalist interiors and wellness spaces: they don’t compete with a room, they settle it.
“Her work offers a sensory experience in which art becomes refuge, pause and connection.”
That line from the Mediterranean Collection dossier is the best key to her work, and to why it works so well at home: it doesn’t ask to be decoded, it asks to be lived with.
Organic abstraction rather than figurative art
In the history of art, abstraction meant giving up on showing the world as it looks in order to express it through form and colour alone. Since then, non-figurative work has taken very different roads: the geometric, with its flat planes and exact lines; fast, expressive gesture; and a material, organic strand that grows out of nature. Adriana belongs firmly to the last.
Her work is not figurative, but it isn’t arbitrary either. Each canvas begins with something real, a horizon, a stretch of coast, a tide, and pares it back until only its essence is left. So even though you won’t see a boat or a beach, you recognise the Mediterranean. She is an artist who thinks about the person who will live with the work, and the result is something you understand with your body before your head.
Spanish abstract art, with its roots in Ibiza
Spain has a remarkable artistic tradition. It is the country of Francisco de Goya and Velázquez, and in the 20th century of Pablo Picasso and Juan Gris, the surrealist Salvador Dalí and Joan Miró, whose language moved ever closer to pure sign and colour. Abstraction has stayed very much alive since, and many painters working in Spain today have found their territory in matter and in an inner landscape. Adriana works in the calmest, most organic strand of Spanish abstract art: less noise, more silence; less statement, more presence.
Ibiza runs right through her work. One of her pieces is simply called Costa de Ibiza, and the palette of the whole collection (deep blues, cove turquoise, sand, broken whites, warm earth tones) is the Mediterranean she sees every day. Her way of looking at landscape is neither naturalistic nor descriptive: it is emotional. If that light is what you want at home, there is a selection of her sea paintings, and if your home is on the island, see original art for Ibiza villas.
Her technique: acrylic, matter, relief and asphalt paint
The first thing you notice about one of Adriana’s works in person is that you want to touch it. She works in acrylic with matter, building each canvas in layers, with textures that create relief, and adds an unusual material that has become her signature.
- Acrylic: the base of her palette. It dries fast, so she can build layer upon layer and work the depth of colour without losing luminosity.
- Textured matter and relief: ridges, cracks, smooth areas like still water and rough ones like rock, a surface that brings the canvas close to sculpture. Raking light makes it change through the day.
- Asphalt paint: a dense, deep black that marks limits, edges and horizons with character.
Why these materials? Because the Mediterranean landscape isn’t only colour: it is erosion, salt, sediment and trace. Matter lets a canvas remember what the sea does to the land. It is also why this kind of work can’t be reproduced: a photograph flattens the surface. If that tactile quality draws you in, explore her textured paintings or read how hand-painted art is built, layer by layer.
The Mediterranean Collection 2026
The Mediterranean Collection brings together thirteen unique works on canvas, all painted in 2026 and inspired, in the words of her dossier, by the Mediterranean landscape, natural textures and the calm of timeless interiors. These are the works and their sizes:
- Silencio de Horizonte, 160×80 cm. Textures with acrylic glazes: Mediterranean light in a long landscape format.
- Equilibrio en Pétalos, 120×80 cm. Paint and texture on canvas, inspired by coastal erosion and the meeting of land, light and water.
- Materia Serena, 140×70 cm. Paint and texture in neutral, earthy tones: the calm of natural landscapes and the beauty of organic textures.
- Límites, 130×75 cm. Paint, texture and asphalt paint on canvas.
- Horizontes, 130×75 cm. Paint, texture and asphalt paint; the natural companion to Límites.
- Horizonte en Calma, 120×90 cm. Acrylic and textured matter: a serene view where sky and land meet.
- Límite Natural, 120×80 cm. Paint, texture and asphalt paint; patterns that bring order, calm and harmony.
- Equilibrio en Movimiento, vertical diptych of two 50×70 cm pieces. The fluidity of water and the harmony of the elements.
- Geografía del Alma, 139×90 cm. Where land meets sea, with textures that suggest movement and depth.
- Costa de Ibiza, 105×104 cm. Paint and texture with matter.
- Profundidades, 105×104 cm. Paint and texture with matter.
- Mareas Serenas, set of 30×30 cm pieces. Textured relief and acrylic, inspired by the unhurried rhythm of the sea.
- Equilibrio, diptych of two 60×50 cm pieces. Textured paint; balance through pattern and surface.
There is a format for every wall: statement pieces for living rooms and above the bed (ideas in large living room art), diptychs for hallways and entrances, and small formats for quieter corners. She also regularly paints formats up to 2 metres wide, and larger on commission.

Adriana knows that choosing an original can feel daunting when you can’t picture it in your home. So her process starts with your space, not with a catalogue:
- You send her a photo of your wall. The living room, the bedroom, the entrance, wherever you imagine the work.
- She studies the space. Natural light, tones, furniture and scale. From that she suggests size, colour and composition. The advice is personal and free.
- A realistic simulation. She prepares a simulation of the work on your own wall so you can see it before you decide. You can request your free wall simulation online.
- The piece, or a commission. If a work from the collection fits, it’s yours. If not, she adapts format, composition and colours to your room, using the same techniques.
A commission is not a copy of another piece or a resized version: it is a new work born from your space, with the same intention as the rest of her work. Tell her your idea on the commissions page. Everything can be handled in English, by WhatsApp or email.
Buying directly from the artist
In the art world there are usually several links between the painter and the buyer. With Adriana there are none, and that changes the whole experience. You speak to the person who made the work, ask her anything, and get a personal reply within 24 hours. And it is all simple:
- Signed, with a certificate of authenticity for every work.
- Direct, personal contact, from the first message to delivery.
- Payment by Bizum or bank transfer.
- Delivery across Spain with professional packaging.
- Stretched on a wooden stretcher frame, ready to hang: paint and texture continue around the edges, so it needs no frame.
Who she paints for
Her work is made to be lived with, not stored away. Most people who come to her are not collectors: they want one original piece that gives a home its soul and keeps moving them over the years.
- Homes in Spain, from villas and second homes to city flats, that want a living room, bedroom or entrance with a note of calm and character.
- Interior designers and studios who need original work for a specific project: dimensions, palette and light.
- Wellness spaces, where art helps slow things down.
In every case the idea is the one that guides her collection: art that transforms spaces. To see all her work in one place, go back to the AEFE Arte home page, or read about buying original art in Spain.
